PEG 3350 ELECTROLYTE PREP
NOTE: You must have a driver present when you arrive for your procedure, and you must be driven home. Public transportation or cabs are not allowed.
Your Medication
If you take Coumadin or Plavix, please STOP these medicines 5 days prior to your colonoscopy, if okay with the doctor that prescribes this medication. All other medication may be taken.
Diabetic patients should take ½ the usual dose of insulin/diabetes medication while on this clear liquid diet. No insulin or other diabetes medication should be taken the morning of the procedure.
Prep: PEG 3350 ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION. Must be purchased at your local pharmacy. (Rx provided)
- Starting at lunch the day before the procedure, take only clear liquids—bouillon, coffee, tea, and clear juices (ONLY apple, grape, or cranberry). You may also have jello, Popsicles, and carbonated beverages or any liquid you can see through. Solid foods, milk or milk products are NOT ALLOWED. Drink liberally of water and the clear liquids listed above, up until 3 hours prior to your procedure*.
- Mix the gallon of PEG solution with water and chill in the refrigerator.
- At 6:00 p.m. the day before the procedure, begin drinking the PEG prep. Drink at least ¾ of the gallon of the solution. Drink more of the PEG solution if your bowel movements are not clear (without particles of stool). It may take 1 to 2 hours to finish the prep solution. Many patients find the solution is better tolerated if you drink ginger ale or 7-Up in between glasses of PEG solution.
OR
Drink ½ gallon of the PEG solution at 6:00 p.m. the evening before the procedure. Drink the remaining ½ gallon of the Peg solution at 6:00 a.m. the morning of the procedure.
*IF YOUR PROCEDURE HAS BEEN SCHEDULED AT LAKE PARK SURGICARE, PLEASE DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT ON THE DAY OF THE PROCEDURE.
